Lewis Hamilton secured his career's 100th F1 victory with the 2021 Russian Grand Prix win, in what was an absolutely chaotic race. The rain-soaked final laps at Sochi made sure of a dramatic end to the race as Lando Norris lost his lead while Hamilton charged his way to the top. Max Verstappen finished second with a 53.271s deficit, while Ferrari's Carlos Sainz Jr. made it to the podium. Polesitter and race leader for a while, Norris, eventually finished seventh in what would've been his first F1 win.

Norris stayed out on slicks in the final laps when Hamilton charged up the order to P2 from starting seventh on the grid, having switched from slicks to wets. As the rain fell harder, Norris tried to desperately hold on to the lead but slid in the final stages promoting Hamilton to the top. Norris also faces a post-race investigation for crossing the pitlane-entry line when he did come in to switch to wet tyres later.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen had an incredible drive though as an engine penalty meant he started at the back of the grid. The driver made his way in a charged performance making it behind Norris and Hamilton. The victory also puts the Mercedes driver on top of the driver's standings in the world championship with a two-point advantage over Verstappen. It Hamilton to run a longer opening stint to gain crucial ground before charging for the leader. It was also one of the more hard-fought wins the Mercedes drivers making his 100th all the more interesting.

Despite a poor start, Carlos Sainz managed to bag third after competing with George Russell on the opening lap for the position, and eventually finishing ahead of Daniel Ricciardo in the McLaren. Valtteri Bottas recovered to fifth after starting at the back of the grid due to an engine penalty, while Fernando Alonso brought crucial points for Alpine, ahead of Norris. Kimi Raikkonen had a rather impressive finish at P8, while the final points were taken by Sergio Perez in the Red Bull and Russell in the Williams.
