F1: Pirelli Boss Wants Ferrari To Be Back On Top

- Marco Tronchetti says he is neutral but Ferrari is important
- The Pirelli boss felt a health Ferrari was healthy for F1
- Ferrari hasn't won a constructors title in 12 years
Pirelli has been the lead tyre supplier for F1 for the last decade or so, and now with its contract renewed for another couple of years till 2024, it will be around for a long time. Unlike in the heyday of Michael Schumacher and Ferrari on the top spot of F1, Pirelli is the only tyre brand -- but despite this dynamic, its boss is rooting for the return of its ionic Italian brethren to the apex of the sport.
Marco Tronchetti Provera, Pirelli's CEO said that he hoped Ferrari would be back on the top of F1 after the team endured its worst season in 40 years in 2020.
"We are neutral, but a fast Ferrari would be good for Formula 1," he told Il Foglio. The time will come when we can also win a World Championship with them. In recent years, we have always won with Mercedes but we have seen some interesting races, never predictable," he said.

Ferrari came P6 in the 2020 constructors which was its worst ranking in 40 years
Ferrari is the most iconic brand in the history of F1, but it last won a constructors title only in 2008 and Kimi Raikkonen was the last driver to win a world title with the team in 2007. The hybrid era hasn't been kind to Ferrari but that is not good for F1 too as its most ionic team is the major reason behind the success of the sport. Recently, a Google search trends report also noted that search queries for Ferrari had dropped dramatically which can also be linked to its lack of success in F1.
The Pirelli boss has batted for improved competitiveness from the Italian giant
The health of Ferrari is important for motorsports, sports car and premium luxury vehicles -- basically, it is one of the most important brands for the auto industry.
Ferrari will show off its 2021 challenger tomorrow and will have its youngest line up of drivers in over 50 years with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr at the helm of the car. Many are hoping for a highly improved Ferrari in the 2021 season but no one is betting on winning the title.
