The 2021 Ford EcoSport went on sale in India earlier this year. And a couple of months later, the American carmaker introduced the SE variant of the EcoSport. The SUV is offered in five variants - Ambiente, Trend, Titanium, Titanium+, and Sports. It is available in both petrol and diesel versions. The petrol engine is a 1.5-litre Ti-VCT 120 bhp motor tuned to make 120 bhp, while the oil burner is Ford's reliable 1.5-litre TDCi 99 bhp diesel engine. It is priced in between Rs. 8.19 lakh and Rs. 11.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Here are its top five rivals.

Mahindra XUV300:

The Mahindra XUV300 is one of the safest cars currently on sale in India. The subcompact SUV is based offered with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. While the former is a 1.2-litre 110 bhp turbo-petrol, the latter is a 1.5-litre 115 bhp oil burner. Transmission options include a six-speed manual gearbox as standard and an optional six-speed AMT unit. The SUV is priced in between Rs. 7.96 lakh and Rs. 11.71 lakh.
Hyundai Venue:

The Hyundai Venue is another option to consider if you are looking to purchase a subcompact SUV. It has been a game-changer for the South Korean carmaker ever since it went on sale in the Indian market. It is a connected car featuring the Hyundai's Bluelink connected car tech, which is also available on several new models. Hyundai offers the subcompact SUV in three engine options - 1.0-litre T-GDI petrol, 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. It is priced in the range of Rs. 6.92 lakh to Rs. 11.78 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza:

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has been one of the bestselling SUVs since its initial launch, which happened in 2016. The SUV is available as a petrol-only car. It gets a tried-and-tested 1.5-litre K15B four-cylinder petrol motor producing 103 bhp and 138 Nm of power figures. The mill comes paired with a 5-speed manual or an optional 4-speed automatic transmission. Prices of the SUV range in between Rs. 7.51 lakh and Rs. 11.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Tata Nexon:

The Tata Nexon is among the safest cars that are available on sale in India. The SUV received a 5-Star safety rating from Global NCAP in 2018. It is available with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. While the petrol is a 1.2-litre 118 bhp turbocharged mill, the latter is a 1.5-litre 108 bhp oil burner. The SUV is priced in start at Rs. 7.19 lakh, going up to Rs. 13.23 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Kia Sonet:

The Kia Sonet is one of the popular offerings in the subcompact SUV segment. The refreshed model of the SUV was launched in India earlier this year. It now comes in a total of 17 variants across two trims - Tech Line & GT-Line options. Mechanically, the SUV is offered in three powertrain choices - 1.2 naturally-aspirated Smartstream, 1.0-litre turbocharged T-GDI petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. Prices of the SUV starts at Rs. 6.79 lakh, going up to Rs. 13.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
