- According to Ford, the GT is its most advanced production vehicle ever
Ford GT, the American carmaker's much languished for supercar, received more than 7,000 applications when it first became available for order. Interestingly, those applications were for just 500 units of the car. So it is easy to see, there were a lot more than a handful of desirous fans that were very politely told they would have to miss out on the Ford GT. Well, now those folks may have a reason to rejoice since the company announced that it will offer its supercar for two additional production years. For those who didn't know, the Ford GT was orginally intended to have a production run of only two years.

Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance, said, "While we can't build enough Ford GTs for everyone who has applied, we are going to produce additional vehicles in an effort to satisfy more of our most loyal Ford ambassadors. We want to keep Ford GT exclusive, but at the same time we know how vital this customer is to our brand."

Ford Performance explained the third year of production will be for people who were placed on the waiting list. Whereas the previously deferred applicants and those who missed the initial application window will be served by production year four. The application process for fourth-year production will reopen in early 2018. And those who already applied will only need to update their request.
