Ford Reveals Its First Hybrid Police Car

- Ford says that the hybrid car will save Rs. 2.5 lakh per car, per year
- The car can travel on all-electric mode with a top speed of 96 kmph
- The hybrid car will offer 16 kmpl
Ford has revealed its first hybrid police car and it's the new Police Responder Hybrid. Ford says that the car is capable of returning more than 16 kmpl and this means savings for the force. The new police car is a Taurus-based hybrid car and comes equipped with a lithium-ion battery pack which will diminish the engine run time and will provide the necessary power to save fuel. Ford has done the math and estimates that the fuel savings will amount to more than $3,900 (Rs. 2.5 lakh approximately) each year per vehicle compared to the Police Interceptor.

The car is powered by a 3.7-liter V6 Ford's engineers have fiddled with the powertrain to make it run on pure electric mode as well. On all-electric mode, the hybrid police car can reach a top speed of 96 kmph and when necessary, the car's computers will automatically engage a maximum performance mode by unlocking the full potential of the combustion engine and electric motor.

Ford explains that the savings per year, per car will be approximately around Rs. 2.5 lakh
Ford has been talking about the development of hybrid and electric cars by the end of this decade. In fact the car maker has already said that it will come out with a small electric SUV by the end of 2020 which will be sold in North America, Europe and Asia. Even the Ford Mustang will receive a hybrid version and is slated to make its debut in 2020. Ford predicts the auto industry will offer customers more hybrids, plug-in hybrids and fully electric vehicles than gasoline-powered vehicles within the next 15 years.
