Geneva 2018: Volkswagen I.D. Vizzion Autonomous Car Revealed

The main focus now-a-days is to make electric cars but a step beyond that is autonomous cars. Yes, we are moving to an age when a driverless car heads into production and Volkswagen, with its I.D. Vizzion concept showed the brand's idea of what the future will be like. The high-tech sedan was unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show and carries a look which we've already seen but there's more to it than what meets the eye.
The Volkswagen I.D. Vizzion concept is a four-door vehicle and its proportions are similar to some of the production cars from the brand, however, the big changes are inside where all the conventional controls have been done away with. Replacing these controls are voice commands and gestures to tell the car where to go. A network of sensors and artificial intelligence take over the driving work from there. Indeed, exactly what you would expect of an autonomous car.

The Vizzion Concept looks similar to a compact sedan
The I.D Vizzion concept borrows its design cues from other members of the I.D. family of concepts which we've seen earlier. The headlamps bear resemblance to the one's on the I.D. Crozz while the large greenhouse and arching roofline make the sedan appear sleek, and the smooth lines accentuate its futuristic appearance.
It's laden with lasers, radar sensors, cameras, and more which have been brilliantly masked thanks to the design. The computers monitor traffic data from the cloud and compare it with what the on-board sensors show. VW also imagines using vehicle-to-vehicle communication as yet another method of gathering info about the road ahead. So, the essential focus is autonomous driving, which is why the designers had to work a lot on the cabin. There are four big captain seats and thick carpeting on the floor. The large windows and glass roof let in lots of natural light, but folks can electronically darken the cabin when they want privacy.

The Vizzion Concept comes with augmented reality
And of course, there's the tech. The I.D Vizzion concept incorporates Microsoft's HoloLens augmented reality tech that can project virtual displays in front of occupants. The car's artificial intelligence learns about the owner and frequent occupants. For example, the system learns things like a person's preferred seating position and climate control settings.
Having said all of that, the VW I.D Vizzion comes with an electric motor up front making 101 horses and another at the rear with 201 horses. Under the floor, a 111-kilowatt-hour which has a range of 665 km.
