Half Of JLR's Line-Up Will Be Hybrid Or All-Electric Models By 2020

- The announcement was made last week at the LA Auto Show
- Jaguar's also previewed its I-Pace all-electric SUV concept at the show
- JLR to also leverage its participation in FormulaE for development of EVs
As vehicle manufacturers across the globe continue their respective endeavours towards environment-friendly transportation, there's another name that is looking to add its name to the list - Jaguar Land Rover. The British carmaker, not quite famed for its 'green' cars, intends to have hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric models constitute nearly half of its line-up by the year 2020. Ralf Speth, CEO, Jaguar Land Rover, made the announcement last week at the LA Auto Show during the unveiling of the I-Pace all-electric SUV concept.

Marking the carmaker's debut in the world of zero-emission battery-electric passenger vehicles, Jaguar's I-Pace all-electric SUV concept is claimed to be "a no-compromise smart, five seat sports car and a performance SUV in one." The SUV gets gets electric motors on the front and rear axles that offer a combined output of 395bhp and 700Nm of torque - the same torque rating as that of the F-TYPE SVR. While this is a production preview of the Jaguar I-PACE, the carmaker will reveal the model next year and has promised that the production I-PACE will hit the roads in 2018.

The British company's other endeavour towards green mobility also include its participation in the FIA Formula E Championship - the world's first fully-electric racing series. Even at the time of the announcement of its entry to the third season of Formula E, the company had affirmed its commitment to the development of future EV powertrain, including motor and battery technology. Nick Rogers, Group Engineering Director for Jaguar Land Rover, had said, "Electric vehicles will absolutely play a role in Jaguar Land Rover's future product portfolio and Formula E will give us a unique opportunity to further our development of electrification technologies. The Championship will enable us to engineer and test our advanced technologies under extreme performance conditions."
