Has New Delhi Banned The Entry Of Diesel And Petrol Cars/Bikes?

- New Delhi has been facing an alarming pollution spike
- The Capital has reportedly banned the entry of petrol/diesel cars & bikes
- However, CNG and electric vehicles are allowed to enter the city.
The New Delhi Government has taken several measures to arrest the air pollution levels in the National Capital. It has issued a guideline, stating that only EVs (electric vehicles) and CNG models will be allowed to enter Delhi. The order will remain applicable between 27th November and 3rd December, 2021. Entry will be banned for all other types of vehicles in this duration, with the exception of those trucks which are engaged in essential services.

Schools have already opened in the National Capital on 29th November, 2021, along with other educational institutions, after they closed on 13th November, 2021, owing to the emergency situation arising from skyrocketing pollution levels. Government offices have also reopened on the same date and staff members have been advised public transportation usage. Special buses will also be ferrying public servants in areas like Gulabi Bagh, Nimri Colony, and Timarpur.

These measures came after the order demanding a scientific study by the Supreme Court. It has recommended various measures to be taken by the Government, advocating model for various seasons in the city and surrounding areas. AQI (Air Quality Index) of 0-50 is good, while 51-100 is satisfactory, 101-200 is moderate, and 201-300 is poor. AQI between 301-400 is very poor, while it is severe between 401-500. The Supreme Court has recommended that restrictions should only be eased when the AQI touches 100.
