Himachal Pradesh to Get 17 New National Highways

Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport & Highways, recently said that 17 new national highways in Himachal Pradesh have received the Centre's in-principle approval. The total length of these roads will be 1368.20 kms, but Mr Gadkari hopes to bring the total road length to 1500Km this year after consultation with MPs.

These new national highways in Himachal Pradesh will include the following stretches of state highways:

a. 57Km Bhota-Nerchouk

b. 47Km Ranital-Kotla

c. 62Km Rohru- Bhalidhar-Kiari-Kotkhai

d. 153Km Chailla-Sarahan-Narayangarh

e. 106Km Taradevi-Nalagarh-Ghanouli

f. 118Km Neripul-rajgarh-Banethi

g. 125Km Mandi-Chailchouk-Nagan

h. 78Km Narkanda-Rohru

i. 14Km Takshal-Nogli

The minister said that the ministry will pursue the widening of every national highway in the state if the HP government helps in the acquisition of necessary land.

He further added that the central government is encouraging Himachal Pradesh to adopt electric transportation system. Gadkari said, "ISRO has developed Lithium batteries for buses which are 30 per cent cheap to its European version, once the commercial production is on India shall have electric buses on low price."
