No Toll Charges For Two-Wheelers: Government Clarifies

- Reports claimed upcoming toll fee for two-wheelers
- Gadkari clarifies the news is fake
- Two-wheelers will remain exempt from paying toll charges
Amid recent reports suggesting that two-wheelers might soon be subjected to toll fees in India starting July 15, 2025, the government has stepped in to clarify the situation. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, has stated that these reports are inaccurate and that no such toll policy for two-wheelers is currently planned or implemented.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has also issued a clarification, dismissed the rumours and confirmed that there is no active proposal to introduce toll charges for two-wheeler vehicles. According to the existing regulations, two-wheelers remain exempt from toll payments. The clarification was issued following widespread social media rumours about the introduction of a FASTag-based toll system for motorcycles and scooters.

Gadkari addressed the misinformation by posting a clarification on social media: “Some media houses are spreading misleading news about imposing toll tax on two-wheeler vehicles. No such decision has been proposed. The exemption on toll for two-wheeler vehicles will continue fully. Spreading misleading news without verifying the truth to create a sensation is not a sign of healthy journalism. I condemn this,” he added.
In related updates, Nitin Gadkari earlier announced that the FASTag-based annual pass scheme will be implemented starting August 15, 2025. Initially, the scheme will apply exclusively to privately owned, non-transport light passenger vehicles. The annual pass will be priced at Rs 3,000 and will remain valid for one year or up to 200 trips – whichever comes first – after which users will need to renew their subscription.
