Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has launched the much-awaited adventure tourer - the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin at Rs 12.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Bookings have opened for the first 50 customers only and a few lucky customers will get a chance to attend the outdoor "True Adventure" Africa Twin India launch event. The flagship adventure tourer has been brought in as completely knocked down kits (CKD) and assembled in India, and it is the first 1000 cc "Make in India" model by HMSI.
"Africa Twin- its name is inseparable from the spirit of Dakar Rally- world's toughest rally raids. Down to its roots, when the going gets tough, Africa Twin gets going. There is nothing to hold back an enthusiast on the Africa Twin, as it's the most reliable, versatile and proven adventure touring motorcycle. Real adventure is awaiting the lucky customers amongst the first 50 bookings of the legendary Africa Twin in India," said Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President - Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd.

Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin
We've already shared our first look review of the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin. The adventure tourer is powered by a liquid-cooled, 998 cc, parallel-twin engine which makes 87 bhp of power and 92 Nm of torque. The engine is mounted on a lightweight, chassis designed specifically for both on and off-road use. Internationally, the CRF1000L Africa Twin is available in both manual and Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) transmission variants and engine output is also marginally higher than the one sold in India. Only one variant of the bike will be sold in India, the top-of-the-line DCT (automatic transmission) variant, available in one shade - New Victory Red. The motorcycle recently climbed a record altitude of 5965 metres.
For booking enquiries, customers can contact or visit Honda's exclusive sales and service Wing World outlets located across 22 cities in India. The Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin's inverted cartridge type fully adjustable front forks come with 230 mm stroke - the longest in its class - with a range of rebound and compression settings, and a class-leading 250 mm of ground clearance. At that price, the new Honda Africa Twin will directly compete with the Triumph Tiger 800 series. HMSI unveiled the Africa Twin at the 2016 Auto Expo and the bike has since been much-awaited among the adventure motorcycling crowd in India.
The Africa Twin name is revered by adventure motorcyclists around the world. The original production Honda Africa Twin, or XR750, was first launched in 1989 and was based on Honda's hugely successful rally bike - the NXR750, which won the Paris-Dakar Rally four times in the 1980s. The XR750 was in production till 2003 when the Africa Twin model was discontinued. Unlike the 750 cc v-twin engines of the past, the latest Honda Africa Twin gets a parallel-twin engine with a displacement bump to 1000 cc.
