Jannarelly Automotive, the UAE-based carmaker recently showcased its retro-style Design-1 roadster prototype in Dubai. This is the first public appearance of the car which looks almost production ready and is expected to go on sale soon. The car has been built by Anthony Jannarelly, the man behind the design of the much famed Lykan Hypersport by Lebanese carmaker W Motors.

Jannarelly Design-1

The Design-1 roadster, in a sense is Jannarelly's tribute to the classic convertible sports cars from the 1060s. Jannarelly says that the Design-1 is "A new sports car inspired from the world of Petrolicious, Jay Leno's garage, Magnus Walker..." The car is a part of a small-scale series of hand built vehicles that has been designed and developed in UAE, thus ensuring a lot of attention to detail.

Jannarelly Design-1 Front Profile

In terms of looks the car shares a lot of its design and styling cues with classic roadsters like Ferrari Testarossa and Jaguar D-Type. Apart from its looks the engineering of the car has also been extensively worked upon as the Design 1 comes with a steel tubular chassis with the option between fiberglass or carbon fibre body, whichever the customer chooses. The interior of the car still needs to be worked upon, though it is still a prototype.

Powering this retro-looking sports car is a meaty rear mounted 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 the churns out 304bhp and 371Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are handled by a six-speed manual gearbox sending power to the rear wheels. Jannarelly prioritizes acceleration over outright top speed, so the Design 1 can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in around 4 seconds before reaching a top speed of 217 km/h.

What's very interesting is the price at which Jannarelly is planning to sell the Special Launching Edition of the Design 1. According to the company the car will likely be launched at a starting price of $55,000, which is around Rs. 36.7 Lakh to keep up with modern sports cars. If the firm can actually live up to that promise, the price seems like a steal.
