Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Sales Cross 50,000 Mark In India

- The Vitara Brezza has crossed the 50,000 sales milestone in 7 months
- The car currently comes with a waiting period of 4-5 months
- Maruti Suzuki is might also launch an AMT version of the car soon
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the top-selling subcompact SUV from the Indo-Japanese carmaker recently crossed the 50,000 sales milestone in India. Launched early this year in March, the Vitara Brezza has already received over one lakh bookings in India and is currently one of the top-selling SUVs in the country. The fact that Maruti was able to achieve this feat in just 7 months shows the kind of popularity and demand, the Vitara Brezza commands.
That said, on the flip side, the Vitara Brezza currently comes with a waiting period of nearly 4-5 months, depending on the variants. And Maruti had earlier told us that a substantial amount of the bookings received are for the top-of-the-line ZDI+ variants with dual tone colour. The company currently has a major backlog of orders and according to sources, Maruti Suzuki is behind on deliveries of nearly 50,000 Vitara Brezzas out the one lakh bookings it has received so far.
In fact, in a recent statement released by the company announcing the Baleno's sales crossing the one lakh mark, Maruti's Executive Director Marketing & Sales, R S Kalsi addressed this very problem saying "We have optimised our production so that we can deliver their cars in the committed timeframe while ensuring the highest levels of quality." From what we hear, Maruti Suzuki intends to start trial production of the Baleno hatchback at its upcoming facility in Hansalpur, Gujarat from the first quarter of 2017. This will not only bring down the waiting period for the Baleno and the Vitara Brezza but will also take the pressure off its plants in Gurgaon and Manesar.
Coming to the car itself, the Vitara Brezza is the first sub-4 metres SUV to come out of Maruti Suzuki's stable. The car is powered by a 1.3-litre DDIS engine the makes 89bhp and develops 200Nm of peak torque. The diesel motor comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. Maruti Suzuki is also working on an AMT version of the car, which will come to India soon.
