Mercedes-Benz E220d Launched At Rs. 57.70 Lakh In India

- The Mercedes E220d will slot below the E350d
- The new Mercedes-Benz E220d is essentially the replacement for the E250d
- The E220d gets a sub-2000cc all-alluminium 4-cylinder diesel engine
Following the launch of the new-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB, the Stuttgart-based carmaker has now introduced a new base diesel variant of the car - the Mercedes-Benz E220d. Launched at Rs. 57.70 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new E220d has been positioned below the existing E350d, which was the only variant up until now. Mercedes also offers a petrol model in India - the E200, which is priced at Rs. 56.7 lakh, while the E350d is priced at Rs. 70.15 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi).

The car competes in India with the likes of the BMW 5 Series, Volvo S90, Audi A6, and the Jaguar XF.
The new Mercedes-Benz E220d is essentially the replacement for the E250d variant that was seen on the previous generation E-Class. Powering this new entry-level diesel E-Class will be a 2-litre oil burner capable of churning out 191 bhp and develops 400 Nm of peak torque. Like the other two variants, the E220d will also come mated to a 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission.

This means that while the E220d will carry over the design and styling features from the top-spec E350d, it sees a drop in power and performance and misses out on some creature comforts as well. For instance, the car doesn't get the exclusive interior package that is offered with the latter along with features like - 360-degree camera and AIR BODY CONTROL air suspension. Moreover, instead of the 10-spoke alloys of the E350d, the E220d comes with the 5-spoke unit used in the petrol model. But the E220d does come with the Chauffer package which we totally came to love in our review. The car also comes with COMAND Online with a12.3 inch media display equipped with smartphone integration package with Android and Apple CarPlay.

Mercedes-Benz E220d taillamps
Essentially, the new Mercedes-Benz E220d will be the diesel equivalent of the E200 and will cater to those who want to buy a diesel E-Class but do not want to break the bank with the E350d.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is currently the longest sedan in its segment at 5063mm and comes with a wheelbase of 3079mm. The car is also the most feature-rich one in this space. It's currently one of the bestselling premium sedans in the market, especially considering the fact that within a week of its launch the new-gen E-Class had already received 500 bookings in India. The car competes in India with the likes of the BMW 5 Series, Volvo S90, Audi A6, and the Jaguar XF.
