Mercedes-Benz Outsells Audi in India to Take Top Spot for 2015

Mercedes-Benz outsold its German rival Audi in 2015 to top the luxury car segment charts in India. Mercedes-Benz sold 13,502 units in India last year as compared with 10,201 units in 2014, a significant jump of 32 per cent. In comparison, Audi reported sales of 11,192 units in the country for 2015, a 3.14 per cent growth over the previous year, as it lost its leadership position in the Indian luxury car space.
BMW, another luxury carmaker from Germany, is all set to finish the year at the No. 3 slot. Although BMW is yet to announce their final sales figures in India, they are expected to be under 10,000 units.
In 2014, Audi had sold 10,851 units in the country to retain its leadership position. BMW had sold 6,812 units in 2014.
Mercedes-Benz has widened its reach in the Indian market and has been riding high thanks to a string of launches last year - 15 in total - with fresh designs which attracted younger buyers. The company has also made its dealer network stronger.

Speaking to Times of India, Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, said: "We are confident of maintaining the lead. New products and a further strengthening of our network will ensure that we stay true to our motto of 'winning with Mercedes' in 2016."
Meanwhile, Joe King, head of Audi India, said in a statement, "Audi has been the preferred choice of luxury mobility for car enthusiasts in India. The year 2015 has seen another year of growth for us and we remained focused towards our aim to provide the best luxury car buying experience to our customers."
The company launched 10 products in India last year, including the limited edition Audi R8 LMX and all-new Audi TT Coupe. Besides, the company also introduced the Audi S5 Sportback and the new Audi Q7 during the year.
"We are committed towards bringing new products which are technologically advanced, smart, agile, and comfortable. We are very confident that we will continue our growth path in 2016 and beyond," King added.
