- The Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan will break cover in 2018
- The A-Class sedan will shares its cues & specs with the new A-Class hatch
- The new A-Class sedan will be slotted below the existing CLA sedan
A near-production version of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan was recently spotted testing in Germany. Expected to be unveiled sometime next year, the all-new A-Class sedan will be slotted below the existing CLA sedan. In fact, in the US, it will become the most affordable offering from the Stuttgart-based carmaker. In India, however, if Mercedes-Benz decides to launch the car here, it will be positioned above the A-Class hatchback, which is also up for a generation upgrade next year. The new-gen A-Class hatchback is reportedly set to make is public debut next year in early February 2018, so, we expect the sedan version to break cover sometime after that, possibly at the Geneva Motor Show or even at Frankfurt.

Despite the fact that the car is still covered in camouflage, we can see that the upcoming A-Class sedan's prototype features production ready headlamps and taillamps with including a boot-mounted brake light. The car also gets a stylish set of multi-spoke alloy wheels. Up front, the car comes with a black mesh grille horizontally divided by a single slat and the three-pointed star logo at the centre. The bumper design is also well-hidden but we can see that it will house a wide central air dam and large air intakes on either side and no foglamps. At the rear, the car appears to get a sleeker pair of LED taillamps and judging by the boot lid, the new A-Class will come with a larger boot opening than the CLA.

We still do not know what the cabin of the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan looks like but considering the fact that the car is based on the new-gen A-Class hatchback, we believe the interior styling will be a bit similar. Interestingly, Mercedes-Benz recently released the official images of the new A-Class hatch's cabin, which reveals an all-new dashboard round chrome accented air-con vents, a new steering wheel and a large infotainment display at the centre and all-digital display for the instrument cluster. The A-Class sedan is likely to come with some similar design and styling which comfortable leather upholstery and more.
Engine details are still unknown, but it is likely that the A-Class sedan will also share its powertrain options with the A-Class hatchback. In those regards, the car is expected to come with a 1.6-litre or a 2-litre petrol engine, and a 2-litre or a 1.5-litre diesel motor. All the engines will get a 9-Speed DCT gearbox, with reports of a 6-Speed manual transmission as well. Having said that, chances are, the car will also get the new turbocharged 1.3-liter petrol engine developed by Renault and Mercedes, which is available in three power configurations - 157 bhp, 138 bhp and 113 bhp.
