New-Gen Mercedes-AMG A 35 Hot Hatch Spotted Testing
- Mercedes-AMG is working on launching the A 35 and A 45 models
- Mercedes-AMG A 35 will get a 330+ bhp 2.0-liter petrol engine
- Mercedes-AMG A 35 is expected to be launched later this year
Not so long ago we shared the first set of spy images of the upcoming Mercedes-AMG A 45 performance hatchback. Back then we had told you that the Stuttgart-based carmaker will also launch the less powerful AMG A 35 later this year, before the top-spec AMG A 45 is introduced. Recently, images of the new Mercedes-AMG A 35, undergoing testing in Prague, have surfaced online, with several production parts. The new Mercedes-AMG A 35 is expected to go on sale in the global markets, possibly in the second half of this year.
Visually, the new AMG A 35 comes with its obvious similarities to the new-gen A-Class hatchback, which went on sale early this year. However, the AMG-spec version seems to come with some cosmetic changes like a blacked-out grille and the edgier-looking bumper and side skirts, which have been well-hidden under all that camouflage. We expect similar black treatment for the headlamps air vents, and ORVMs as well. The exposed roof and the door handles indicate that the car has been painted in deep red colour, which we believe will look really stunning on the production-spec model.

Mercedes-AMG A 35 will be positioned below the top-spec AMG A 45 variant
The Mercedes-AMG A 35 test mule runs on a set of wide-multi-spoke alloy wheels and there are some pseudo cladding on the rear section hiding the cosmetic updates made to the car. The A 35 does appear to get a larger rear roof-mounted spoiler with integrated brake lights, restyled taillamps, redesigned rear bumper and a new exhaust system.
Under the hood, the upcoming Mercedes-AMG A 35 will probably get a downgraded version of the 400+ bhp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that is set to power the AMG A 45. The petrol motor will be paired with electrically-assisted turbochargers and Mercedes's 48-volt hybrid system that will offer a combined output of close to 330 bhp and 450 Nm of peak torque in the AMG A 35. Mercedes-AMG has also confirmed that the next iteration of the hot hatch will utilize a newly developed 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.
