Norton 650 cc Scrambler Concept Breaks Cover

- The 650 cc Scrambler will have two variants
- If successful, the Norton might bring in other bikes with the same engine
- The 650 cc engine will be tuned to produce 100 bhp or so
Right on the heels of Norton signing a joint-venture partnership with India's Kinetic Motoroyale, the British company has confirmed that it is also working on a new Scrambler with the company's 650 cc parallel-twin engine. The company has released renderings of the new 650 cc Scrambler in a few iterations and the company says that it will be working on two variants of the 650 cc Scrambler. One will be more of a road-going, street scrambler variant while the other will be a proper dual-purpose bike with authentic off-road cred. The rear wheel on both models will be a 17-inch unit. The road-going model will get an 18-inch wheel while the off-road model will have a bigger, 19-inch wheel.

Norton says that the design of the 650 cc Scrambler will be durable and sturdy, with enough protection on the bike to dust off minor falls and keep riding. The bike will not be affordable so to say and that is only because Norton says its going to use highest-spec components for manufacturing. The bike will get electronic aids such as ABS (anti-lock brakes) and traction control as well.

The new 650 cc engine will be tuned to churn out over 100 bhp and will be used on a retro-bike platform, a high-performance platform and a high-volume platform, as per what Simon Skinner, Head of Design, Norton, told Motorcyclenews.com. This would certainly mean that apart from a Scrambler, there are a couple of other models in the works. One could be a 650 cc retro-styled bike and the other might be a 650 cc Supersport. It is certainly a mouth-watering prospect, but that is only if the Scrambler 650 hits the targets that Norton will set, in terms of sales of course.
