Number of Trucks Entering Delhi Dropped By Nearly 50 Per Cent: EPCA

According to statistics, the fall in the number was in the range of 40 - 50 per cent. With that said, the data and statistics quoted by EPCA are yet to be verified by an independent study.

Interestingly, a report filed by EPCA in February showed that the doubled ECC resulted in almost 20% cutback in the number of commercial vehicles entering the city as well as a major 35% plunge in trucks' particulate matter load.

One must note, during yesterday's hearing, the Supreme Court extended the deadline for the conversion of all cabs in the NCR region to CNG by a month. While Ola and Uber submitted to the Supreme Court's order, the Delhi Taxi Tourist Transporters and Tour Operator Association has refused to comply. The association said, "We informed the EPCA members that we do not do point-to-point service in Delhi and, hence, we do not come under the ambit of the SC order. The EPCA has directed us to give an undertaking to the transport department that we cannot convert to CNG because we are tourist cabs."

The Supreme Court that convened yesterday to review the ban on registration of diesel vehicles with engine capacity of 2000cc ordered the continuation of the first-of-its-kind ban till the next review on 9 April, 2016.
