Ola Electric Scooter Revealed In Video; Launch Soon

The Ola Electric scooter has been in news for the better part of six months. With Ola commissioning the biggest two-wheeler factory in the world at Tamil Nadu, to getting its electric scooter ready and even announcing a nation-wide hyper charging network, Ola Electric has been very busy. Now, Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Group CEO, Ola Electric, posted a video of him riding the Ola Electric scooter on Twitter, hinting that the scooter is now ready for a market launch.

The video shows Aggarwal riding the Ola Electric scooter on Bengaluru roads and gives us a glimpse of the two-wheeler in metal for the first time. Plus, the video also shows the scooter having a significantly big underseat stowage capacity, with space for two half-face helmets. The tweet also impresses upon the fact that the scooter will have good 0-60 kmph acceleration, which points towards the scooter having a decent sized electric motor and a battery. Based on the Etergo Appscooter, the Ola electric scooter is likely to have a range of 100-150 km and get features like removable Lithium-ion battery, digital instrument console, cloud connectivity, alloy wheels, telescopic suspension up front and much more.

The Ola future factory is being built with an investment of about Rs. 2,400 crore. The manufacturer had announced that it will be ready to begin the first phase of operations at the plant in the next few months. The facility will be able to generate employment for over 2,000 people initially, going up to 10,000 once fully operational. About 10 million man-hours have been planned to construct the facility.

The fully operational plant will meet Industry 4.0 standards will have an installed capacity of 10 million electric scooters per annum. The capacity will stand at two million units per year in Phase 1. The plant will have 10 general assembly lines and will be able to roll out a scooter every two seconds, and 25,000 batteries per day. The made-in-India scooters will be exported to Europe, UK, Latin America, Asia Pacific, Australia and New Zealand, apart from being sold in India. The massive scale promises competitive pricing on the Ola electric scooter that will take on the Bajaj Chetak, Ather 450X, TVS iQube and the likes in the segment.
