Ola Electric Sells Scooters Worth Over Rs. 600 Crore Within The First 24 Hours Of Sale

Ola Group CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has announced that the company sold electric scooters worth over Rs. 600 crore within the first 24 hours of the sale. Ola Electric commenced sales of its S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters on September 16, 2021. Customers could book the scooter online for a minimum price of Rs. 20,000, while deliveries are set to begin in October this year across 1000 cities and towns. The company was originally scheduled to begin sales on September 8 but delayed the plan after its website had glitches. At present, the company is only accepting orders from its mobile app.

"We sold 4 scooters every second. In fact, in just 24 hours, we sold scooters worth over 600 crores. That's more, in value terms than what the entire 2W industry sells in a day. Make no mistake, the age of EVs is here. Yesterday also established that with the right product, India has huge pent up demand and a massive domestic market for two-wheeler EVs. We must leverage this to drive innovation, a robust local EV ecosystem and make India not only a big EV market but also a global EV manufacturing hub," Aggarwal said in a blog post.

Customers can book the Ola scooters only till today midnight (September 16), before order books are full

Aggarwal also noted that today (September 16, 2021) will be the last day for consumers to purchase these scooters. Those customers who've already reserved will be given preference and can make the purchase until midnight tonight. The Ola S1 is priced at Rs. 1 lakh, while the S1 Pro is priced at Rs. 1.30 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). The prices drop based on state subsidies across the country.

In other news, Ola announced that its FutureFactory would be run entirely by a female workforce. The company will go on to employ 10,000 when at full operational capacity, making it the world's largest women-only factory and the only all-women automotive manufacturing facility across the world.

Located in Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu, the Ola factory is spread over 500 acres and will have a production capacity of 10 million vehicles per year when fully completed. The company has secured a long-term debut of $100 million from the Bank of Baroda to close the first phase of development of its factory.
