Petrol, Diesel Prices Hiked By Up To 39 Paise; Petrol Nears Rs. 107/Litre Mark In Mumbai

After a brief hiatus of one day, oil retailers again increased fuel prices on Saturday across India. Petrol prices are already above the Rs. 100-mark across six metro cities while diesel retails at an all-time high. With the latest hike, petrol has now surpassed the psychological mark of Rs. 100 per litre in few more cities. Petrol prices in Delhi jumped by 35 paise from Rs. 100.56 a litre to Rs. 100.91 a litre while diesel is priced at Rs. 89.88 a litre, after a hike of 26 paise. In India's financial capital Mumbai, petrol is inching towards Rs. 107-mark, currently priced at Rs. 106.93 a litre while diesel rates have increased to Rs. 97.46 per litre.

In Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar, petrol has breached Rs. 112-mark currently retails at Rs. 112.24 a litre while diesel soared to Rs. 103.15 per litre.

Petrol in Chennai now costs Rs. 101.67 a litre while diesel retails at Rs. 94.39 a litre. Fuel rates in Bengaluru have jumped to Rs. 104.29 a litre and Rs. 95.26 a litre, respectively. Petrol rates in Kolkata breached Rs. 101-mark after a hike of 39 paise to Rs. 101.01 a litre. Diesel now costs Rs. 92.97 a litre. In Hyderabad, petrol currently retails at Rs. 104.86 a litre, while diesel is priced at Rs. 97.96 a litre.
This is the seventh hike this month that took fuel rates to new all-time highs. Petrol has now breached the Rs. 100-mark in Jammu, retailing at Rs. 100.21 per litre while diesel costs Rs. 90.44 per litre. Presently, petrol prices are above Rs. 100 a litre mark in 18 states and UTs - Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Bihar, Nagaland, Sikkim and West Bengal.

Fuel prices differ from state to state, which depends on the value-added tax (VAT) levied by the state government.

Fuel prices are the most expensive in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar where petrol currently stands at Rs. 112.24 per litre, while diesel stands at Rs. 103.15 a litre. In Madhya Pradesh's Rewa and Anuppur districts, petrol prices on Saturday touched Rs. 111.82 a litre and Rs. 111.82 a litre, respectively. Diesel, on the other hand, in these districts reached Rs. 100.72 a litre and Rs. 101.06 a litre, respectively. Customers in the Parbhani district of Maharashtra will now have to pay Rs. 109.24 a litre and Rs. 98.19 a litre for petrol and diesel, respectively.
