Petrol, Diesel Rates Hiked For Sixth Straight Day; Petrol Crosses Rs. 95/Litre Mark In Mumbai

- Fuel rates increased by up to 29 paise and up to 32 paise across metros
- Diesel price in Delhi hiked by 32 paise, to Rs. 79.06 per litre
- Petrol and diesel prices are revised daily by the state-run OMCs
Domestic prices of petrol and diesel have been hiked for the sixth consecutive day across India. As per the notification from state-owned oil marketing companies, petrol and diesel have become dearer by 29 paise and 32 paise, respectively. In Delhi, petrol is now priced at Rs. 88.73 per litre while diesel has touched an all-time high of Rs. 79.06 per litre. On Saturday, the two auto fuels were priced at Rs. 88.44 per litre and Rs. 78.74 per litre, respectively.

Petrol and diesel prices in Mumbai have reached all-time highs of Rs. 95.21 and Rs. 86.04, respectively
Here are the prices of petrol and diesel in the five metros on January 14, 2021:

In the last six days, fuel prices have gone up by Rs. 1.8 per litre and Rs. 1.88 per litre for petrol and diesel respectively. With the continuous revision in fuel rates, petrol prices on Sunday breached Rs. 95-mark and diesel too surpassed Rs. 86-mark in Mumbai. Customers in Mumbai will now have to pay Rs. 95.21 per litre for one-litre petrol and for diesel they will have to shell out Rs. 86.06 for a litre. The fuel rates have been hiked for the sixth straight day which came into effect from 6 am today.
The retail price of petrol in Kolkata went up by 28 paise to Rs. 90.01 per litre from Rs. 89.73 per litre and diesel retails at Rs. 82.65 per litre. In Chennai and Bengaluru, petrol retailed at Rs. 90.96 and Rs. 91.70 respectively. On the other hand, diesel retailed at Rs. 84.16 in Chennai and Rs. 83.81 in Bengaluru.

The country's three major oil marketing firms - Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation, and Bharat Petroleum Corporation revise fuel rates on daily basis. They also make necessary changes to align the petroleum prices with global benchmark and dollar-rupee exchange rate. Fuel prices vary from state to state depending on the incidence of local sales tax or VAT.
