Renault Kaptur Spotted Testing In India Ahead Of Diwali Launch

- The Renault Kaptur will be positioned above the Duster
- The India-spec Renault Kaptur will be similar to the Brazilian-spec model
- Renault Kaptur will be launched in India around Diwali
It was just a couple of weeks back that we shared the spy images of the upcoming Renault Kaptur crossover and now the car has been caught testing again. We spotted the all-new Kaptur around the outskirts of Chennai near the company's manufacturing facility, which is located in Oragadam. Over the past few months, several test mules have been spotted testing in the country. We have been seeing many updates with each test mule, which indicates that the Renault Kaptur could very well go on sale in by Diwali 2017.

Renault Kaptur will be positioned above the Duster
Last time the Renault Kaptur was spotted testing in the country, it was seen along the company's popular compact SUV, Renault Duster. Expected to be positioned above the Duster SUV, the Kaptur crossover will be a premium offering from the Renault India. And unlike the Renault Captur that is sold in Europe, which serves basis for the India-bound Kaptur, this one will also come with a 4x4 system borrowed from the Duster. The competition will come from the likes of Mahindra XUV500, Tata Hexa and even the Hyundai Tucson for that matter.

The Renault Kaptur is still undergoing heavy testing
The Kaptur test mules are still covered in heavy camouflage so there isn't a lot that we can comment on the design and styling. But, if the India-spec Renault Kaptur will be anything like the Brazilian model, and we know it will be, the styling will be very much similar to the European Captur. Up front, the Kaptur will come with that aggressive grille, sweptback headlamps equipped with projector lamps, C-shaped LED DRLs, and wide bumper. The profile gets black cladding on the lower section, while the 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels look really sharp on the SUV. The Kaptur's ground clearance stands at 204mm, 1mm lower than that of the Duster. In terms of dimensions, the Renault Kaptur is marginally larger than the Duster, measuring 4333mm in length, 1813mm width and 1613mm in height. The wheelbase though remains the same on both SUVs at 2674mm.

Renault Kaptur will be similar to the Brazilian-spec model unveiled last year
Under the hood, the India-spec Renault Kaptur will get the same 1.5-litre diesel engine from the Duster, albeit in the 108bhp or higher state of tune. The motor will come paired to the 6-speed manual gearbox and also borrow the Easy-R AMT unit on the SUV, from the Duster.
