Amazon and Ford backed Rivian which recently raised $2.5 billion has shown off the off-roading capabilities of its upcoming R1S SUV which will be delivered to customers in September. Rivian co-founder and CEO RJ Scaringe shared videos that showed the R1S being tested somewhere in Moab. 

In the video, was the 7-seat model that quite cables out in the wild with it having a quad-motor all-wheel-drive system and also has good ground clearance.

This climb was achieved called smoothly with even any engine noise, though there was a bit of tyre spin. The R1S is expected to offer more than 483 kilometres of range, though its entry-level model will have around 402 kilometres of range.

The Rivian RIT and RIS were scheduled to be delivered to customers by now however the deliveries are delayed till September. The R1S will go up against the new Hummer SUV that's coming in and the new Tesla Model X which was revamped alongside the Model S. 

It has been following a Tesla-like strategy of vertical integration with it building its own charging network and also its own factories. The recent raise of $2.5 billion was released to it biding a second factory in the US.
