Entry-level commuter class motorcycles in the 100 - 110 cc segment are the highest-selling bikes in the country, thanks to very good fuel-efficiency figures, affordable pricing and low maintenance costs. Although sales of scooters have really taken off, with the Honda Activa currently ruling the top of the charts as the highest-selling two-wheeler, it is the mass market motorcycles which contribute a significant share to overall two-wheeler sales. From Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor Company and Hero MotoCorp to Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, all two-wheeler manufacturers have a few commuter-friendly, 'volumes-spinner' models, all priced very competitively. Here's a look at the features, specifications and prices of the top 5 least expensive bikes on sale in India.

1. Bajaj CT 100B

The Bajaj CT100B is by far the cheapest motorcycle on sale in India right now, priced at Rs 29,998 (ex-showroom Delhi). The CT100B gets a round headlamp and bare-bones design with wire-spoke wheels and powered by a frugal single-cylinder, air-cooled, 99.2 cc engine. The engine makes just over 8 bhp power and 8 Nm of torque, but it stakes claim to be the most fuel-efficient bike in India, with a claimed figure of 99.1 kmpl. The manufacturer claimed fuel efficiency figure is as per tests conducted under standard conditions at the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). The CT100 costs Rs 4,000 more and comes with alloy wheels and a small bikini fairing around the headlamp. Needless to say, the CT100 is one of the volumes spinners for Bajaj Auto and sold over 4.5 lakh bikes in the 2016-17 financial year.

2. TVS Sport

The TVS Sport is the second least expensive motorcycle on sale in India, priced at Rs 37,780 (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base kick-start with spoked wheel variant. Powered by a 99.7 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, the TVS Sport boasts of fuel-efficiency of 95 kmpl, five-step adjustable rear shocks, large 130 mm drum brakes and sporty looks. Considering the price, the TVS Sport does look like a premium and well-built product amongst its competitors. The single-cylinder, air-cooled, 99.7 cc engine makes just 7.7 bhp of power and 7.8 Nm of torque. The Sport is one of TVS Motor Company's highest-selling motorcycle models. In FY2017, the TVS Sport sold over 1.7 lakh units.

3. Hero HF Deluxe

The Hero HF Deluxe is the second highest selling Hero motorcycle model after the Splendor, and is the least expensive motorcycle on offer from Hero MotoCorp. In FY 2017, over 14 lakh HF Deluxe bikes were sold, thanks to the model's reputation of being a robust, fuel-efficient and low maintenance bike. Powered by Hero's 97.2 cc single-cylinder, four-stroke engine, the HF Deluxe boasts of fuel efficiency of 88.5 kmpl. Priced at Rs 42,830 for the base variant, the HF Deluxe also has two more variants on offer - the HF Deluxe i3S with start-stop technology at Rs 46,630 and the HF Deluxe Eco at Rs 47,130.

4. Bajaj Platina 100 ES

The Bajaj Platina 100 ES comes in two variants - one with wire-spoked wheels and the second variant with alloy wheels. The Platina 100 ES boasts of several best-in-class features, including a longer front suspension, a soft cushioned seat and extra-long double spring rear suspension. The 102 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine makes just over 8 bhp and 8.6 Nm, but where the Platina also scores is on fuel-efficiency. With a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 96.9 kmpl (according to ARAI tested figures), the Platina 100 ES is one of the most fuel-efficient bikes on sale. The standard Bajaj Platina 100 ES costs Rs 42,990 (ex-showroom Delhi), and the variant with alloy wheels costs Rs 45,985 (ex-showroom Delhi)

5. Honda CD 110 Dream

The Honda CD 110 Dream is Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India's least expensive motorcycle on sale. Priced at Rs 45,002 for the base kick-start variant, the CD 110 Dream, together with the other Dream series bikes - Dream Neo and Dream Yuga - make a significant contribution to Honda's motorcycle sales. In FY2017, the Dream bikes sold over 2.7 lakh units. Powered by a 110 cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke engine, the CD 110 Dream boasts of several features like tubeless tyres, high ground clearance and a company-fitted carrier. The engine makes 8.31 bhp of power and 9.09 Nm of torque and is claimed to return fuel efficiency figures of 74 kmpl. The other variants offered are kick-start with carrier (Rs 45,294), self-start (Rs 47,202) and self-start with carrier (Rs 47,494). All prices are ex-showroom Delhi.
