So here's a list of upcoming cars in India (2016) that will that will go up against established names in the hatchback segment.
1. Tata Zica
Tata Zica is a breath of fresh air, a welcome break from the Indica family's commonplace design. Tata Motors' entrant in the entry-level hatchback segment will get 2 engine options: a new 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine and the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder VCTi Revotron petrol motor. The diesel engine develops 67bhp and 140Nm of torque, while the petrol unit churns out 83bhp and 114Nm. Both the engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox for now with the possibility of an AMT reserved for the future.

2. Maruti Suzuki Ignis
Maruti Suzuki Ignis mini-SUV first made its global debut at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. Slated to arrive in India next year, Maruti Suzuki's upcoming SUV looks largely similar to the iM4 concept. Much like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the Ignis SUV will also be manufactured in India and will feature a high-level of localisation.

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis measures 3,679mm in length, 1,579mm in width, 1,478mm in height and sports a wheelbase of 2,438mm.

The Suzuki Ignis is available with 2 petrol engines, namely, a 1.0-litre, turbocharged 3-cylinder Boosterjet and a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol with the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) in international markets. In India, Maruti Suzuki is like to offer the 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol and probably the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel.

3. Datsun Redi-Go
Another entry-level hatchback to be launched in India in 2016 will be the Datsun Redi-Go. The car, which has already been spotted testing in India, will share its platform, engine and most of its features with the Renault Kwid. With that being said, certain reports also claim that the Datsun Redi-Go may get a new engine instead of the Kwid's 800cc petrol unit.

4. Volkswagen Polo GTI
While Volkswagen has given no indication about the Polo GTI's launch in India, reports claim that is indeed gearing up to launch the more powerful version of its acclaimed hatchback here.
VW Polo GTI will house a new 1.8-litre TSI petrol engine that also powers the Audi A3 and Skoda Superb albeit in different states of tune.
