Volkswagen launched the Beetle in India and has priced it at Rs. 28.73 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The company had already teased the new model coming to India on its website and then had kick started the bookings as well.
The car made its way into India in 2009 but didn't quite make a mark when it came to sales. Though an iconic car across the world, India has not seen it grow from ground up and hence in 2009, when the car sported a 21 lakh price tag, a whole bunch of customers shied away from buying one.
However, the Beetle is still as cute as it was and you can’t help but give it a second look. This time around though, it’s got a bit sportier. There are a bunch of exterior changes made to the car comes with day-time running LEDs and a sporty looking rear spoiler. Though it retains its shape, the Beetle’s stance shows that there is some muscle to show.

The Beetle coming to India will come with a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine which delivers 147bhp and will be available with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. Other features on the Beetle include Bi-Xenon headlamps with LED Daytime running lights, Panoramic Sunroof, 16-inch alloy wheels, KESSY - keyless access and push button start and many more.
On the safety front, the new Beetle comes equipped with 6 Airbags, ESP, ABS as standard fitment. Volkswagen also promises leather Interiors and chrome packages for the interior and exterior. There will be 4 body colours on sale and customers can take their pick.
As was the case with its earlier model, the Beetle will take the CBU route to India and will go up against the likes of the MINI Cooper, the Mercedes A-Class, the BMW 1-Series and the Fiat 500 Abarth.
