Key Highlights
  • Volkswagen India operates in the used car space through Das WeltAuto.
  • It is aiming for 2.5 per cent market share in the used car space by 2025.
  • It is targeting twofold growth in the used car space by 2025.

Skoda Auto and Volkswagen India have kicked off their second innings in India and we expect to see an array of new localised models from both carmakers. The heavily localised MQB-A0-IN platform will form the base for its India 2.0 strategy and after the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun, both companies are expected to come up with their respective compact sedans on the same platform. Now the new India 2.0 strategy is pretty cohesive. While these new models will help the company achieving the 3 per cent market share it is targeting by 2025, Volkswagen India is also aiming for 2.5 per cent market share by 2025 in the used car business.

Volkswagen India operates in the used car space through its Das WeltAuto franchise and it's a multi brand used car outlet just like Maruti Suzuki Tru Value or Mahindra First Choice. So the model range is not just limited to Volkswagen branded cars. The German brand is targeting a twofold growth in the used car business by 2025 and threefold volume growth or in the number of units sold. At present, the company is operating with 17 used car dealerships across the county and is working on an expansion plan for its dealership network in a bid to improve its reach in the market.

The company is also working on strengthening its subscription program in India. The car leasing program is already active in 10 cities with 30 dealerships. The company is also providing flexible tenure options of 24, 36 and 48 months and the subscription charge includes insurance, road tax and maintenance cost.
