Volkswagen Releases Sneak-Peek Video For The New Touareg, Ahead Of Debut

- The new Touareg is based on the same MLB platform like the Audi Q7
- The new Touareg will be the flagship model in VW's line-up
- Volkswagen Touareg will debut at the Auto China Show 2018
Volkswagen has released a new teaser video for its upcoming third-generation Touareg SUV ahead of its official debut. Set to make its global premiere at the Beijing Auto Show, in China, later this month, the new video gives us a glimpse of a prototype model of the new-gen Volkswagen Touareg and its all-terrain capabilities. Though the prototype model is partially camouflaged, we can see that the Touareg in the video is very similar the design sketch VW had released last month, in terms of design and proportions.
The new Volkswagen Touareg will be the flagship SUV in the German carmaker's line-up and will be positioned above the current VW Tiguan, similar to the previous generation models. The new-gen Touareg is based on the same MLB platform like the Audi Q7 so there are some styling bits that remind us about the latter. Visually, the SUV will come with a new wider grille with prominent chrome slats, as confirmed from the previously seen spy images of the SUV, which seamlessly connect with the stylish LED headlamps on either end. The SUV also comes with a nice well-sculpted front bumper with large air intakes and black underbody cladding.

From the sides, we can see the SUV's massive proportions and bold character lines that are unique to VW Group SUVs. The SUV also gets sleeker looking ORVMs, beefy alloy wheels and a high shoulder line. The rear, on the other hand, comes with the now signature protruding tail section with a roof-mounted spoiler, similar to an Audi SUV. The SUV features a pair wraparound LED taillamps, beefy bumper, and dual horizontal chrome-tipped exhaust. Furthermore, being based on the same platform as the Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne and the recently launched Lamborghini Urus, it will also get smarter features like air suspension, rear-wheel steering, roll stabilization and other electronic driver aids.

Volkswagen Touareg gets larger proportions and bolder design and styling
Under the hood, the all-new Volkswagen Touareg is expected to draw power from 2-litre petrol and diesel engines on the base models, while the premium variants will get the 3-litre V6 petrol and diesel engines. The powertrain options will come paired with an 8-speed DSG transmission with All-Wheel Drive (AWD) offered as optional. There are also rumours of a hybrid version on the Touareg, but there is no confirmation yet.
