Volkswagen Taigun Tales: A Fine Balance

We’ve told you already about Volkswagen India’s strategy with the Taigun for the Indian market, but the carmaker had to tread on a tight rope to ensure it got everything right. In a price sensitive market like India, Volkswagen had to ensure that it launched a car that had it all. With established players, already in that segment, Volkswagen had to ensure that it comes up with a car that has the features, the drive and the power to keep its customers engaged. The Taigun, fulfilled all of these criterias.
Let’s talk about the features first. The top-end variant of the 1-litre petrol comes with sunroof and ventilated seats not to forget the virtual cockpit which adds to the finesse of the car. Now the rear AC vents too make it easy for the passengers at the rear in hot conditions. Add the charging ports and even the KESSY, remote entry feature, and it’s as premium as it gets. Volkswagen has also made it a connected car, and the you can know everything about your car via an app, thus giving you all information at the tip of your fingers.
The engine options come next. With the 1-litre and 1.5-litre turbo petrol options, the Taigun brings performance to the table. The 1-litre engine punches out 114 bhp while the 1.5-litre is good enough for 148 bhp. Add the availability of manual and automatic transmissions on both, and you’ll understand, how well, Volkswagen has managed to pack this car with options for the end user.
The Taigun, though an SUV, feels more like a hot hatch when you drive it and that’s where you see VW India shine, because it has managed to keep the company’s core DNA intact in the car. The Taigun then becomes one of the most well-rounded cars in the crowded compact SUV space which certainly says a lot about how the company has managed to tilt the balance in its favour thanks to this product.
