Volkswagen Taigun Tales: One Platform To Rule Them All- MQB A0-IN

Volkswagen announced a big investment of Rs. 8000 crore in its Chakan facility, to make it ready for the future. The future for the German carmaker was to make cars in India for the world and the only way to achieve that was to work on the variable MQB platform and ‘Indianise’ it. Yes, most of the investment went into doing exactly that getting the Chakan facility ready to manufacture highly localized cars for the Indian market. The platform was exclusive to India and that’s the best way to show the company’s commitment towards the country.
Volkswagen's new platform already meets all the requirements for the Indian market including the new safety norms that have come into force. You can say it's future ready. This uniform yet variable platform allows a wealth of different vehicles to be produced in an extremely flexible and efficient manner.

So, Volkswagen can build a hatchback, sedan and even an SUV with varying levels of wheelbases on the same platform. That has two positive implications; one - improves efficiency and hence better for economies of scale and the second, more products can come to the market faster than ever before.

No wonder then it brought in the compact SUV Taigun first and just a year later came the compact sedan – the Virtus. The launch of both these cars are a testament to the company’s commitment towards the Indian market. The MQB A0-IN platform makes it easier for the company to adapt to the needs of the market and this means not just India, but global markets. The MQB A0-IN platform, is the true hero then for the German car maker, because it helms the strategy of the company for not only India, but for the world. It truly is the one platform to rule them all!
