Watch: How the Cars of Fast and Furious 7 Dived Off an Airplane

Remember how Furious 7's cars went skydiving in the film's extended first look video? Did you think that scene was the handiwork of lords of graphic? Turns out, the guys actually dropped the cars off an airplane. The latest release on the Fast and Furious franchise's official YouTube channel is a featurette that shows how the folks managed to shoot this magnificent scene.

The scene sees the cars free-falling out of a Lockheed C-130 Hercules flying at about 12,000 feet. Three camera flyers armed with parachutes and helmet-cameras jump off after the cars are dropped from the airplane. Imagine this: 2 cars free-falling at about 225Km/h, 3 camera flyers and a helicopter! Quite unnerving, eh? The shoot needed precision from not only pilots of the airplane and the chopper, but also the flyers. It takes some sort of dedication to put in that much effort despite all the risks involved.
After the cars are dropped, the parachutes were activated as soon as the cars reached an altitude of 5,000 feet altitude. Thank God!
Set to be released on April 3, the 7th instalment of the film picks up the story after the death of Han in Tokyo. It has Jason Statham playing Owen Shaw's elder brother, who is out to exact revenge. Filmed in cities across the globe, Furious 7 will feature the underground Race Wars event in Los Angeles that also featured in the first Fast and Furious instalment.
