The most awaited awards; namely the Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) and Indian Motorcycle of the Year (IMOTY), along with JK Tyre, were presented yesterday.
All the cars that were launched in the year 2013 were evaluated and a panel of jury which consisted of experts from the journalist fraternity judged the cars and bikes based on various parameters like price, fuel efficiency, styling, comfort, safety, performance, practicality, and technical innovation, value for money and suitability for Indian driving conditions.
Though there were a lot of launches this year, 17 cars and motorcycles qualified for the 2014 ICOTY and IMOTY out of which 9 made it to the final shortlist.
The Hyundai Grand i10, Honda Amaze and Ford Ecosport eventually finished as the top 3 finalists. The top three for the IMOTY included the Royal Enfield Continental GT, KTM Duke 390 and the Hyosung Aquila Pro.
The Hyundai Grand i10emerged victorious and took away the crown for the Indian Car of the Year while the Royal Enfield Continental GT was a clear favourite and swept the award for the Indian Motorcycle of the Year.
Hyundai has won this award twice - one in 2008 for the i10 and now for the Grand i10, and is at par with Maruti Suzuki who picked up the award for the Swift in 2006 and 2012.
