SIAM Celebrates World Environment Day Across 4700 Dealerships

SIAM's initiative, the Society for Automotive Fitness & Environment (SAFE), celebrated World Environment Day across 4700 dealerships in the country yesterday. SAFE organised various activities relevant to environment safety and conservation, and also pledged to spread awareness about environment protection, sustenance and eco-conscious growth.

Organised on June 5, 2014, the list of activities included free day-long PUC check-ups, issuing of free PUC certificates at various dealers across India, and other creative initiatives like drawing competition for kids, environment conservation tips for customers, sapling distribution, tree plantations, green processions, and awareness rallies among other things. Mr. Vishnu Mathur, Director General, SIAM, said, "The Indian automobile industry has always been committed to its care for the environment and it is our endeavour to enhance public awareness towards key environmental issues. SAFE firmly believes that the community education is a key contributor in this direction and all members come together to spread awareness about cleaner environment among vehicle owners and society as a whole."

The list of companies who partook in this initiative included Ashok Leyland, Bajaj Auto, Ford, General Motors, Hero Motorcorp, Honda Car India Ltd, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Renault Nissan, Tata Motors, TVS, Toyota Kirloskar, and Skoda India amongst others.
