Car Sales October 2019: Volkswagen Polo & Vento Register 19% Growth
Volkswagen India managed to buck the trend with its volume models - the Polo and the Vento registering a 19 per cent growth in October this year. While the auto industry has been on the road to recovery, sales reports continue to remain lower than expectations. However, the arrival of the festive season including Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali last month, expedited purchase decision for several buyers, helping carmakers post a positive growth. Volkswagen sold 3213 units of the Polo and the Vento in October 2019, as opposed to 3191 units that were sold during the same month last year. It is to be noted that the month October 2018 was a non-festive month last year.

Volkswagen India has announced its partnership with self-drive rental platform Zoomcar to lease its car to customers. The automaker will be selling the Volkswagen Polo through this channel through Zoomcar's ZAP subscribe model. Under the subscription based system, customers can lease the car at a fixed monthly fee while also gaining on a host of other benefits. The manufacturer has handed over 200 Polos to Zoomcar as part of the tie-up. Celebrating its tenth anniversary in the country, Volkswagen Motorsport India, part of the Volkswagen India Group, has revealed a special Winter Project Car. Using the Volkswagen Polo body shell, the Polo RX Winter Project car has been developed completely by the factory team's engineers and technicians in India and is a one-off build that can be bought by anyone for track day purposes. The Polo RX is a rear-engined, rear-wheel drive car that is powered by the same engine that is also used on the Volkswagen Ameo Cup car. The team used its "winter" break to come up with the Polo RX track car, which is how it earns the name.

Volkswagen Polo Gets Smaller, More Fuel Efficient 1-litre Engine
Volkswagen India has discontinued the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine in the Polo hatchback. The Polo will now instead get a more fuel efficient 1-litre, three cylinder MPI engine instead. The new engine is also more fuel efficient as compared to the earlier version. Where the older 1.2-litre MPI petrol returned 16.47 kmpl according to ARAI test results, the new smaller 1-litre MPI petrol engine offers 18.78 kmpl. Although the new engine is smaller as compared to the outgoing version, it offers the same horsepower figure of 75 bhp. Torque figures for the 1-litre engine however, as expected, come down to 95 Nm as compared to 110 Nm in the older 1.2-litre engine. The new 1-litre petrol engine will replace the 1.2-litre all the naturally aspirated petrol powered variants of the Polo. Prices for the new 1-litre Polo will start at the same as it was before, Rs 5.41 lakh (ex-showroom).
