1965 Ford Mustang Autonomous Car Gets Ready To Take On Goodwood Festival Of Speed

- For the first time an autonomous car will make its way up the hill
- It will be the 1965 Ford Mustang
- Siemens UK has partnered with Cranfield University to customise the car
History will be made at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed as an autonomous car will make its way up the hill and the attempt will be made today. Mind you, you might think it to be a futuristic car, but you'd be wrong. This one in fact is a 1965 Ford Mustang. Siemens UK has partnered with Cranfield University to customise this 1965 Ford Mustang and this will be the first time an autonomous car will make its way up the hill.
Juergen Maier, CEO Siemens UK & Ireland, said, "To help celebrate Goodwood's 25th year anniversary, we've partnered with Cranfield University to bridge the gap between the legacy of the automotive industry while pointing to the future of autonomy in terms of both motoring and wider industrial applications. Customising a 1965 Ford Mustang with autonomous technologies, we're going to attempt the famous hillclimb autonomously for the first time in Goodwood's history."

The 1965 Ford Mustang autonomous car comes with advanced location scanning technology from Bentley Systems
Of course it's not easy customising a 1965 Ford Mustang for the autonomous hillclimb especially taking control to navigate the complex course. Using advanced location scanning technology from Bentley Systems, the engineering team behind the vehicle has developed an accurate 3-Dimensional scan of the track so as to help the autonomous Mustang track its way through the hill climb.
The vehicle has been wrapped in a silver design to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Goodwood. We wait to know how the Mustang performs but we hope it passes the test with flying colours!
