BMW revealed the X4 at the 2014 Geneva Motorshow and the Bavarian car manufacturer has now unveiled its second Sports Activity Coupe at the New York Auto Show. Similar in looks to the X6, the X4 is a slinkier sibling of the X3.

There's an aggressive front fascia with a prominent grille and the twin headlamps along with the fog lights add character to the X4. The swooping roofline is reminiscent of a "classical sporting coupe."

The L-shaped LED taillights and a faux rear diffuser makes it better to look at even from the rear. The X4 is 14mm longer and 36mm lower than the X3 and BMW promises that it will be available in a range of engine options.

The cabin of the X4 is elegant and though understated in design, it is made of extremely good quality. There is plush leather and attractive wood trim creating a luxurious ambiance. The instrument cluster is all about analogue gauges and the latest evolution of BMW's iDrive infotainment system can be ordered as an option.

The base-model, X4, comes powered with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine rated at 240bhp and a 3.0-litre straight-six that churns out 306bhp. Both engines send power to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

We are sure to see an M version of the X4 soon too.
