2020 World Car Awards Nominees Announced; Seltos, Venue In The Running For Top Prize

The road for the 2020 World Car Awards began at the 2019 New York Motor Show and now at the Frankfurt Motor Show the nominees are out and yes, it's a list of stunning cars and one that the jurors can't wait to drive. While this is a provisional list put out, there may be additions made to the list till November this year. But the big take-away here is that two of the models, whose development and global unveils took place in India are also in the list to fight it out for the top prize of World Car of The Year. Yes, the Hyundai Venue and the Kia Seltos SUV, are in the running for the 2020 World Car of the Year Award. There are of course many others that it has to contend with and this includes cars like the Ford Kuga, Range Rover Evoque, the Mazda 3. There's also the VW T-Cross, in the list which is all set to make its way to India and so is the new gen of the Mercedes-Benz CLA.

The next category is the Luxury car of the year and this includes four cars from BMW, all of which have been launched in India. There are also the two electric cars in this list which include the Mercedes-Benz EQC and the Porsche Taycan. Of course, the Toyota GR Supra too makes it to the list and we are sure there will be a bee line to drive it.

Next come the performance cars and it's always the best segment to review as also cast your vote for. This year there's quite an interesting line-up of cars and Audi has majority of them right from the RS6 Avant, RS7 Sportback and even the SQ8! But there are other cars like the new-gen Porsche 911 and the BMW M8 Coupe too is quite impressive. This year, the Performance Car nominees have really upped the ante and the jurors are sure going to have a tough time awarding points

The next category is the Urban car of the Year and last year it was the Suzuki Jimny that took top honours with the Hyundai Santro just a few votes behind. This year the fight will be between the these nominees and the VW T-Cross looks to be a prime candidate for this top prize. However, cars like the Renault Clio and even the Kia Soul EV as also the Mini Cooper SE Electric will give the T-Cross tough competition.
