2021 MG Hector Petrol CVT Launch Date Announced

- The 2021 MG Hector will get a CVT paired with the 1.5-litre petrol motor
- The Hector petrol CVT will be priced lower than the DCT variant on sale
- The Hector CVT is likely to be offered in the Super and Sharp vairants
MG Motor India is all set to expand the Hector line-up with one more variant. This time it is the CVT automatic gearbox that will be offered on the MG Hector and it will be launched on February 11, 2021. The new CVT variant comes just weeks after the Hector facelift was introduced last month in the country with a number of upgrades. The new CVT gearbox will be paired with the existing petrol engine and will be the second auto box to be offered, in addition to the dual-clutch transmission (DCT).

The new CVT unit will be paired with the 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine on the 2021 MG Hector. The motor develops 141 bhp and 250 Nm torque and is currently offered with a 6-speed manual and the DCT gearbox. With the new transmission choice, MG India aims to lower the price point of the Hector automatic by about Rs. 50,000-60,000. Moreover, the CVT variant will attract those buyers looking at a smooth and comfortable SUV for the city. A CVT unit then would make more sense with its butter-smooth shifts, as against the DCT that can get a bit aggressive at crawling speeds.
The DCT variant will continue to be on offer on the MG Hector
Barring the addition of the new CVT option, do not expect any major change on the 2021 MG Hector CVT. The model has already received a cosmetic refresh with a grille revised bumper and a bunch of other small changes, while the cabin too gets a new dual-tone option, along with features like wireless charging, ventilated front seats, and an updated MG iSmart mobile app.

The upcoming MG Hector CVT is likely to be offered in the top variants - Super and Sharp. Prices are expected to start from just about Rs. 15.80 lakh (ex-showroom). The new Hector petrol CVT will compete with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks and the Jeep Compass Facelift in the segment.
