2022 World Car Awards: Volkswagen Taigun SUV Nominated In 2 Categories

The road to the 2022 World Car Awards has begun and as you all know, the first step towards this is identifying the nominees in various categories. Now, the made-in-India, Volkswagen Taigun, has been nominated in two categories in this edition. The first category is the coveted World Car Of The Year title and the second is the World Urban Car Of The Year Award. The Volkswagen Taigun SUV will be launched in India tomorrow and promises to be a good value for money proposition. The Taigun is built on the India specific, MQB A0 IN platform and comes with localisation content of more than 93 per cent, which also in turn means that it will be very competitively priced.

The Volkswagen Taigun is slated to be launched in India on September 23, 2021

While the list of nominees for the World Car Of The Year is extensive, the Taigun finds its way into it and in fact, it also has the VW Taos which is manufactured in Mexico. But the main fight for the Taigun will be in the World Urban Car Of The Year space because that's where its value for money proposition and even its drivability in city conditions will help it win points. However, there are some strong contenders in this category and it includes, the Citroen C3, Dacia Sandero, the Toyota Yaris Cross and another made-in-India model - the Renault Kiger.

The Taigun is Volkswagen's first product in the compact SUV space and yes, it's a petrol-only model. The company is providing two engine options with the Taigun - the 1-litre and 1.5-litre - both of which are turbocharged. The 1-litre TSI is tuned to make 113 bhp and 175 Nm of torque and comes mated to a six-speed manual and an optional six-speed torque convertor automatic transmission. The 1.5-litre, four-cylinder TSI unit belts out 148 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, while paired with a six-speed manual and a seven-Speed DSG automatic transmission.
