It's taken 54 years for Porsche to produce its millionth 911. The world the first Porsche 911 belonged too was more than half a century ago and yes belonged to a time which saw the rise of stuff like computers, cable TV and even cell phones. Porsche's rear-engined sports car has endured through all these changes and now that the one millionth 911 has left the production line, from the same facility in Zuffenhausen where every other 911 was made. Dr Wolfgang Porsche, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Porsche AG, said, "54 years ago, I was able to take my first trips over the Grossglockner High Alpine Road with my father. The feeling of being in a 911 is just as enjoyable now as it was then. That's because the 911 has ensured that the core values of our brand are as visionary today as they were in the first Porsche 356/1 from 1948". The 1 millionth Porsche 911 is a Carrera S and is draped in a special Irish Green colour The sales of the 911 have been going up and in 2016 alone, 32,365 vehicles were delivered worldwide and Porsche has never really strayed away from the founding concept of the original 911 but that doesn't mean it hasn't changed with times. Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG says, "We have continued to enhance the technology of the 911, refining and perfecting the sports car and that's why it remains a state-of-the-art and technically innovative vehicle. We have also been able to expand the model line very successfully through derivatives". The car was rolled out of the company's Zuffenhausen factory One significant factor in this success is the production site at the headquarters in Zuffenhausen, where all 911s are manufactured. Today, all two-door models - 911, 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman - and their various derivatives are handled on one assembly line thanks to a sophisticated production approach. Well, if you are wondering who the lucky owner of this one-millionth 911 is, well, unsurprisingly, Porsche will hang onto it and take it on a tour which starts its journey at Porsche AG, before then moving on to enrich the collection at the Porsche Museum, followed by a world tour that will include road trips in the Scottish Highlands, around the Nurburgring, the USA, China and beyond.
