Audi A5 Diesel Sportback, A5 Cabriolet, S5 Sportback Launched In India

- The A5 Sportback slots in between the A4 and the A6 in the line-up
- The S5 Sportback can complete 0-100 kmph in 4.7 seconds
- The Audi A5 Sportback is only available in diesel variant at the moment
A perfect blend of practicality and good looks, the Audi A5 family has been launched in India in three versions and two body styles - The A5 (diesel) and S5 Sportback and the A5 (diesel) Cabriolet. The A5 diesel Sportback is available for Rs 54.02 lakh, while the A5 diesel Cabriolet is priced at Rs 67.51 lakh. The range topping S5 Sportback with the turbocharged V6 petrol engine is priced at Rs 70.60 lakh. The A5 Sportback essentially slots in between the A4 and the A6 in the model line up and although it might not be as practical in terms of interior cabin space as compared to either sedan, the 4-door coupe body style is certainly one that is lust worthy.

The Audi A5 family comes packed with features like a large sunroof (that does make the car feel airier) and various interior seat packages. The A5 Sportback/A5 cabriolet/S5 Sportback also comes standard with the likes of the LCD instrument cluster display that replaces the standard gauges and a large infotainment system that is controlled by Audi's MMI or multimedia interface. The infotainment system is also equipped with the likes of satellite navigation and Apple CarPlay.

Under the hood, the A5 Sportback and the A5 cabriolet get the tried and tested 2-litre engine that makes 188 bhp of peak power and 400 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed Tiptronic gearbox that takes the A5 sportback from 0-100 kmph in just 7.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 235 kmph. The A5 sportback will not get the Quattro all-wheel-drive system though and will only come with the front wheel drive setup to keep both costs and weight down. The A5 cabriolet on the other hand does get Quattro all-wheel-drive that drops the 0-100 kmph time to 7.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 235 kmph.

The Audi S5 Sportback on the other hand gets the only petrol engine in the range - a 3-litre turbo charged V6 that makes 349 bhp of peak power and 500 Nm of peak torque. The S5 of course also gets the Quattro all-wheel-drive setup and gets from 0-100 kmph in a quick 4.7 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 250 kmph.

The Audi A5 Sportback will be the most popular of the lot though and is only currently available with a diesel engine with the possibility of a petrol 2-litre unit eventually. The A5 Sportback, as we mentioned earlier, is a 4-door coupe which makes it a much cooler proposition as a compared to your regular 4-door sedan body style. The sloping roofline combined with the stubby boot and short overhangs gives it a very sporty stance. The doors too are pillar less. That said, there is a slightly lower rear leg and head space in the back - especially when compared to other cars in the same price range.
