  • The car is road legal and has been developed by a British consortium
  • It has a user interface which is optimised for removing range anxiety
  • It is based on Android Automotive and uses Sparks EV technology

A new breed of an electric two-seater sports car called Aura has been unveiled by a construing of British companies which include Astheimer, Potenza Technology, BAMD, and Conjure which leverage Spark's EV technology. The NVN funded project is a showcase of new generation HMI technologies that connect the driver to the vehicle and its surroundings to make range anxiety a thing of the past. The cars are being showcased right now at the CENEX Low Carbon Vehicle Show at Millbrook.

The Aura concept is road legal and leverages the use of sustainable composite materials, novel battery technology and drivetrain efficiency, and a design that's optimized for aerodynamics. The vehicle has been designed around a unique and cutting edge human-machine interface that connects the driver with his or her surroundings.

It gets a 10-inch touch screen infotainment system and a 5-inch circular self levering display in the middle of the steering wheel which makes up the core of the user interface. It is based on the Android Automotive OS and Spark's EV technology which uses machine learning algorithms that monitor the weather, the driving style, and the road conditions to provide an optimal journey ensuring the driver never runs out of charge or has to wait for a charge for a long time.

The vehicle is also connected to the Aura cloud which enables the creation of a digital twin of the vehicle to provide the driver.

"We know there's huge potential for HMI systems to better connect the driver with the vehicle and their surroundings in the future. Until now, many HMI programs, software, hardware, and user experience have been developed separately. We believe our approach of developing them as one element is a major stepping stone towards vehicles of the future," said Chris Tingley CTO of Conjure, who developed the HMI system.

"The AURA project has enabled leaders in their respective fields to work together to build a working demonstrator to showcase to the world how the industry can use the technology available today to help overcome these barriers," added Justin Ott, CEO, and founder of Spark EV Technology.
