- The i8 Roadster will also get few cosmetic updates as well
- The engine might be re-tuned to churn out more power
- The BMW i8 Roadster will debut at the upcoming L.A Auto Show
BMW says that the i8 Roadster is almost ready for production and will be hitting the roads in 2018. Although the exact timeline hasn't been confirmed but we believe that the i8 Roadster will see the light of the day within the first six months of 2018. The i8 Roadster will get a fabric-folding roof along with a few other changes such as a revised headlamp cluster. The i8 is already in the middle of its life-cycle, having been launched in 2014. The engine remains the same, which is a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine making 228 bhp and the electric motor produces 96 kW or 129 bhp for a total of 357 bhp and 570 Nm of torque. The top-speed of the i8 is 250 kmph and the zero to hundred sprint is done in 4.4 seconds.

The interesting part is the fuel efficiency. BMW claims a fuel efficiency figure of 50 kmpl with combined CO2 emissions of just 46g/km and electricity consumption of 15.4 kWh/100 km. From what we hear, the i8 Roadster will also get a slightly revised chassis which include new wishbone linkages and new mounting points for lowering the ride height of the car. BMW just might update the engine as well, re-tuning it for making 400 bhp (IC and electric combined) instead of the current 357 bhp. The BMW i8 is already sold in India at Rs. 2.14 crore and we are hopeful that the i8 Roadster to India towards the end of 2018.
