BMW Likely To Launch An Electric Maxi-Scooter In India Soon

BMW is likely to launch an electric Maxi-scooter for the Indian market soon, It is expected that it could be the BMW CE 04, BMW's current sole electric Maxi-Scooter sold globally. The Bavarian Motorrad is very keen on launching an electric scooter in markets like India and China. Although it has some time before it arrives in the Indian market. But when it does, it won't be easy on the pocket. The current CE 04 starts with a price tag of Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom) in overseas market and we expect the scooter to be priced at a slight premium once it launches in India.
The CE 04 is powered with an 8.9 kWh battery producing a minimum of 20 bhp and a max output of 41.4 bhp and peak torque of 62Nm of Torque which covers 0-100 under 10 seconds and max speed of 120 kmph. The scooter delivers a range of 130km as per the World Motorcycle Test (WMTC) program.
"Electrification is clearly the future, but we have to look at the timing of it we have CE 04 electric scooter in our lineup, and we are considering it for markets like India and China. it will be a full import to begin with and it's too early to say if and when we will decide to produce it outside of Germany". Markus Mueler Zambre said in an interview with another publication.
"It is our strategy to bring our full line up of global products to India and CE 04 is definitely in our consideration. But we haven't made a firm decision yet and cannot give a timeline at this point" said Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India.
He added, "The market reality for EVs for cars and two-wheelers is different so we still need to study a bit more but as our existing maxi scooter (C 400 GT, priced at Rs. 9.95 lakh) indicates, there may be a strong latent demand for a product that on paper may not make too much sense".
