- BMW Motorrad will be selling via new and existing BMW showrooms
- The bike maker's much awaited launch in the G 310 R street-fighter
- The dealerships will also retail the premium offerings brought in a CBUs
Big news has come from the new BMW 3GT facelift launch in Pune today as the German company said that it plans to commence BMW Motorrad operations in India by early 2017. The announcement has been a highly awaited one for motorcycle enthusiasts, who have been eagerly waiting for the brand to open shop in the country. This also means the highly awaited TVS-BMW developed G 310 R could make it to the country by next year.
The automaker's two wheeler division, BMW Motorrad first made its official debut in India at the Auto Expo this year. Currently, the bikes are privately imported in the country by BMW dealers. The manufacturer was expected to begin operations by the festive season this year, but the same doesn't seem to be the same case anymore.

Instead, BMW Motorrad will start setting up showrooms across the country by next year. From what we hear, the company plans to sell its bikes not only via the new the Motorrad outlets, but also via existing BMW car dealerships. Naturally, BMW has a large car dealer network of around 45 outlets pan India, which can also hold motorcycles on display, and is likely to be used for motorcycles as well.
In fact, dealers that import BMW bikes for customers and even have certain bikes on display in one corner of outlet. You can expect a more dedicated corner being allotted for the BMW Motorrad bikes starting next year.
Speaking about the motorcycles itself; it is the BMW G 310 R that gains maximum traction and is expected the most popular model from the bike maker when it goes on sale next year. The G 310 R has been engineered by the German auto giant, while being locally manufactured at the TVS' production facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. BMW is also working on an adventure spec version of the G 310 R, called the G 310 GS, which has already been spotted testing.

BMW R Nine T
In addition to the naked street G 310 R, the G 310 GS will be one of the most highly anticipated motorcycles, not only in India, but globally as well. Adventure bikes are traditionally bulky, heavy with large engines. A small, 300cc-ish adventure motorcycle is just what many adventure aficionados have been looking for, and the G 310 GS is expected to meet that demand. With a brand like BMW, which already commands great demand and reputation in the global adventure market, the G 310 GS could well be the new best-seller for BMW Motorrad once it's launched.
Apart from the G 310 R, BMW Motorrad will also officially start selling its superbike range that comprises of some exotic machinery like the S1000RR, S1000R street-fighter, F 800 GS, 1200 GSA, R Nine T and many more. Needless to say, the bikes will be making it to the country via the CBU route. That said, with the company officially bringing the bikes, the customers can expect a much strong after sales and service support.
