BMW Motorrad's New Facility In Brazil Commences Production

There is a lot happening at BMW Motorrad. It is fully committed to expand its presence in upcoming markets such as India. The German company recently started operations at its newly commissioned plant in Manaus, Brazil. It is the first ever 100 per cent BMW-owned production facility for motorcycles outside of Germany. The company has invested a sum of 10.5 million euros in the new plant.

There is a lot happening at BMW Motorrad. It is fully committed to expand its presence in upcoming markets such as India. The German company recently started operations at its newly commissioned plant in Manaus, Brazil. It is the first ever 100 per cent BMW-owned production facility for motorcycles outside of Germany. The company has invested a sum of 10.5 million euros in the new plant.

The first motorcycle to enter production at the new plant will be the F 700 GS. The other models that will be manufactured at the Manaus plant will be the BMW F 800 GS, BMW F 800 GS Adventure, BMW F 800 R, BMW R 1200 GS, BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, BMW S 1000 R, BMW S 1000 RR and BMW S 1000 XR will also be locally produced in Manaus this year.

The plant is said to have an initial capacity of manufacturing 10,000 motorcycles annually and have engaged the services of over 45 local suppliers. The number might increase, depending on growth in the market. The facility is built over an area of 10,000 sq. metres and took 9 months for completion.

"BMW Motorrad is expanding its motorcycle production globally to achieve sustainable business growth. Brazil remains an important market for this strategy and we see great potential in this country over the mid and long term. This is why we have decided to construct our first 100 per cent. BMW Group-owned motorcycle plant outside of Germany in Manaus," explained Stephan Schaller, President of BMW Motorrad.
