CF Moto CL-X700 Adventure Bike Nears Production

- CF Moto is a Chinese motorcycle brand with limited presence in India
- The 700Cl-X Adventure is one of three new models
- CF Moto also manufactures KTM-origin engines in China
Chinese motorcycle brand CF Moto’s new adventure bike, the CF Moto CL-X700 seems to be getting closer to production as latest teaser images reveal. The bike is the adventure variant of the firm’s new CL-X700 parallel-twin platform, which will eventually have at least three new models, with the inclusion of the ADV model. The CL-X700 Heritage and CL-X700 Sport are already on sale, after having shown at the EICMA show in 2019. The latest images uploaded on the firm’s social media channels, are accompanied by the words, “700CL-X ADV is on the horizon and so is your next adventure.”
The CFMoto CL-X700 Adventure has been positioned as an on-road, off-road bike with mild off-road capability.

The CL-X700 ADV is powered by the same 693 cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, parallel-twin engine which makes around 73 bhp of maximum power at 8,500 rpm and 68 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm. The engine is derived from the Kawasaki ER-6 platform, and the CFMotor bikes are built around a tubular steel chassis built by the Chinese firm. Other components are also shared with the Sport and Heritage models, including cycle parts, instrument console and the fuel tank. The ADV though has a bigger 19-inch front wheel, a higher front mudguard, with taller and wider handlebars, along with a different seat to give a more upright riding position.
The CFMoto 700CL-X features a wide and tall handlebar, and slightly different ergonomics, compared to its siblings.

Although it’s no hard-core off-road bike, the CL-X700 Adventure is positioned as taking on mild off-road duties, as shown in the pictures, and come shod with block-pattern tyres for ‘crossover’ duties. Braking is handled by a single front disc, with four-piston J Juan radially mounted caliper, and the ADV is also expected to get an off-road riding mode. With 200 kg kerb weight though, the CL-X700 Adventure isn’t a lightweight bike for any real off-road shenanigans, but looks wise, it does look promising, and will be positioned like a Ducai Scrambler.
CFMoto also has a KTM association, and shares the same design house as KTM, Kiska Design. CFMoto also exclusively manufactures the 799 cc, parallel-twin LC8 motor of the KTM 790 Duke and KTM 790 Adventure. In fact, CFMoto is in the process of finalising its own adventure model based on the same engine. CF Moto does have presence in India, but so far, the brand has not been aggressive in its expansion plans across the country, and few models are seen on the streets. Going forward though, that may change, and CF Moto may end up introducing more models from its line-up in the Indian market.
