Datsun redi-GO 1.0L Model To Be Launched Soon; AMT Model Will Come Later

- The Datsun redi-GO will get the same 1-litre petrol engine as the Kwid

- The redi-GO AMT will not be launched alongside the 1-litre model
The Datsun redi-GO has truly been a life saver for the Nissan-owned carmaker in India. Based on the same platform as the Renault Kwid, the Datsun redi-GO was launched in the country back in June 2016. Since then, Datsun has been consistently selling about 2,000 - 2,500 units of the redi-GO on an average in India. Nissan has now decided to launch the 1-litre version of the Datsun redi-GO, which will be powered by the same 999 cc three-cylinder petrol engine that does duty on the Renault Kwid 1.0L version.
Rumour has it that the car will be launched in India in the latter half of July 2017. When we contacted Nissan to confirm this, a company spokesperson told us that they haven't finalised on a launch date yet and an official confirmation is expected by next week. The company spokesperson also confirmed that the AMT option, which we were expecting for a while now, will not be launched alongside the 1.0L version. This means that like the Kwid AMT, the redi-GO AMT will also be launched at a much later date.
Currently, the Datsun redi-GO is powered by the 799cc iSAT (Intelligent Spark Automated Technology) three-cylinder petrol engine, which is sourced from Renault. The engine makes about 53 bhp at 5678rpm and develops 72 Nm of torque at 4386 rpm. The motor is paired to only a 5-speed manual gearbox. As for the 1-litre engine, which will also be sourced from the Renault Kwid, it churns out 67 bhp and develops 91 Nm of torque. Transmission duties will be handled by the same 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Datsun redi-GO is based on Renault-Nissan Alliance's CMF-A platform and comes with a very modern and quirky design. The top-end model of the redi-GO is also loaded with some features likes LED daytime running lights, class leading 185 mm of ground clearance, 222 litres of boot space. Cabin features include - a 2-DIN audio system, USB and AUX connectivity, CD player, two speakers, power steering and front power windows among others. Datsun offers the redi-GO with only a driver-side airbag on the top model; the remaining trims don't get airbags even as an option. Once launched, the car will rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, the Hyundai Eon and even the Renault Kwid 1.0 for the matter.
